Agra, the city most famous for being Tal Mahal's host, is a small city in Uttar Pardesh's northern Indian state. For the capital of the country it is just about 200 km away, and is one of the best and most sought after tourist destinations in the world. The city has three UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the beautifully magnificent Taj Mahal, the powerful and powerful Agra Fort, and Fathepur Sikiri, peaceful and composed.

Understanding the city:

The city was also of great administrative and cultural importance, and also played a crucial role in shaping the nation's history. The heyday of the town was much earlier established as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1526 to 1658. The earliest reference to this town can be found in Mahabharata's epic era, and the history of the town is recorded somewhere around the 11th century.

To all its rulers, including both Hindu and Muslim, the town was important. Among the country's great rulers are Sultan Sikandar Lodi, Babur, Humanyun, Hemachandra VIckramaditya, and Shah Jehan.

Since the city has in the past changed hands with several Hindu and Muslim rulers, so the culture of the city is now a blend of both. There are mesmerizing-splendid structures in various parts of the city. Spotting the presence of both cultures in the city's streets, houses, and people isn't very difficult. While the city is one of the country's most peaceful towns, it does have a major community gap. People are very welcoming here and support the tourists whenever possible.

Tourism:

Tourism is high in the city, as a large part of the economy of the city is derived simply from tourism in Agra. Thousands of tourists from around the globe visit the city each year. Enormous wave of tourist flood into the city during the peak seasons, making it one of the most visited tourist spots in the world. So it's recommended that you do all the planning, particularly booking flights and hotels, well before the actual date of travel.

If you're in town then don't forget to visit the 3 attractions listed below in Agra.

Taj Mahal - It's by far the town's most visited attraction. It is so because it is absolutely incomparable in its elegance. Designed by Shah Jehan in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, his beloved wife, Taj Mahal is the world's greatest sign of everlasting love. It is an enormous mausoleum made of white marble, one of the world's most well-protected graves. It was described by the great India poet Rabindranath Tagore as "a teardrop on the cheek of eternity." It is an impeccably beautifully crafted earthly structure and its beauty immediately leaves spellbound tourists. During the full moon night, when the moon light is reflected by the ponds, the structure looks most spectacular and the surrounding area is filled with the sweet fragrance of the flowers ornamented in the gardens.

Agra Fort - It's the other biggest tourist spot in town, by far. It is similar in style to the Red Fort of Delhi, and is also made of red sandstone, but it is better reserved. Emperor Akbar built the fort as a sign of his dominance and it was there that Emperor Shah Jehan was confined to this same fort. This fort is only a stone's throw from Taj Mahal and tourists visiting Taj Mahal also visit Agra Fort.

Sikandra - The tomb of the great Emperor Akbar, right in the middle of the city, is situated 10 km from Agra, on the Delhi Agra highway. Akbar himself began the construction of this tomb, and it was completed by his son Jehangir. It is a beautifully constructed crypt, with many wall paintings and sculpting. This place, is just one of the top places in Agra to visit.
