Jaisalmer About this sound pronunciation, nicknamed "Golden City," is a town in the Indian state of Rajasthan, located 575 kilometers west of the state capital of Jaipur. It is a World Heritage Site once known as the state of Jaisalmer. The city stands on a hill of yellowish sandstone, topped with a fort that includes the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Jaisalmer Fort:

The Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, from whom he derives his name, built it in 1156 AD. The fort stands on Trikuta Hill, surrounded by the sandy expanse of the great Thar Desert. Salim Singh ki Haveli is an old building located in the heart of the town of Jaisalmer, near the Jaisalmer Castle. This beautiful building is one of Jaisalmer's major tourist spots. Built in 1815 CE by Salim Singh, the then kingdom prime minister when Jaisalmer was the capital, Salim Singh ki Haveli. It is said that once the Haveli of Salim Singh had two additional wooden floors in an attempt to make it as high as the Maharaja palace, but the Maharaja did not make this attempt in good spirit. This actually has only five floors as the top two levels have been demolished in compliance with the king's order.

Tazia Tower:

The Tazia Tower is located inside the Jaisalmer Fort in the Badal Palace complex near the Amar Sagar Gate. This tower's complex designs, minarets and architectural fusion make it one of the top tourist spots in Jaisalmer. Tazia Tower was built in the style of Tazia, which is typically part of religious Muslim festivities. It was designed by Muslim carvers in 1886 AD, who presented it as a gift to Maharawal Berisal Singh, the imperial Hindu ruler.

Desert Cultural Centre:

The Desert Cultural Center & Museum is located on Gadisagar Road in Jaisalmer. It is one of Jaisalmer's most popular tourist attractions. This museum contains various musical instruments and costumes related to folk dance. Costumes can also be found in the museum of the former maharajas and maharanis.

Bada Bagh:

Bada Bagh, also known as Barabagh, is a garden complex about 6 km north of Jaisalmer on its way to Ramgarh, and halfway between Jaisalmer and Lodhruva in Rajasthan State, India. It includes a set of royal cenotaphs or chhatris of Jaisalmer state Maharajas, beginning with Jai Singh II

Jain Temples - Jaisalmer Fort:

Jaisalmer was enriched by his Jain community, which decorated the city with beautiful temples, including the 16th Tirthankara, Shantinath, and 23rd Tirthankara, Parshvanath. Inside the Jaisalmer fort constructed during the 12th and 15th centuries, there are seven Jain temples in total. Among these temples, the largest is the Paraswanath Temple, and the most beautiful is the Chandraprabhu Temple, the Rishabdev Temple, the Shitalnath Temple, the Kunthunath Temple, and the Shantinath Temple. The temples are made of yellow sandstone and have intricate engravings on them, renowned for their exquisite work of art and architecture that was prevalent in the medieval era.
Jaisalmer boasts some of India's oldest libraries that contain the rarest of Jain tradition manuscripts and artifacts. Around Jaisalmer there are many pilgrimage sites, such as Lodhruva, Amarsagar, Brahmsar, and Pokharan.


Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Rajasthan district of Jaisalmer, India. It was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins, which was founded around the 13th century. It was abandoned for unknown reasons by the early 19th century, possibly due to dwindling water supply, or as a local legend claims, due to persecution by the minister of the Jaisalmer State, Salim Singh.
